Midway Airlines II Flight Attendant Wing

Raleigh-Durham, NC 1993-2003

Midway Airlines was the name of two different, defunct airlines. Formed by Jet Express in October 1983 as a Chicago Midway Airport commuter however, that operation never materialized. In 1985, the airline started flying as a contract carrier for Atlantic City Casinos. Commuter service for Trans World Express and USAir Express began in the early 1990s. A new company was formed which acquired Jet Express to launch the new Midway Airlines in 1993. When American Airlines abandoned its hub in Raleigh/Durham, Midway decided to move there. The first service out of Raleigh/Durham was March 2, 1995 and all Chicago service ended on August 1, 1995. After initial success, Midway started losing money and on August 13, 2000 they filed for bankruptcy and suspended operations on September 12, 2011. With a government infusion of money after September 11, 2001 the airline started up again but was never profitable and again suspended operations on July 17, 2002. They resumed operation once again on January 1, 2003 as a USAir Express airline but that only last until October 30, 2003 when they ceased operations and were placed into Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
